The establishment of Postharvest Industries West Africa in Ghana is the joint initiative of Nana Yaw Obeng (1961, Ghana/USA) and Tom de Bruin (1943,Netherlands, Israel, Philippines).
Through our presence at the African continent we will fill in the need of African and global farmers, growers, traders, processors and exporters for technological advanced solutions developed and manufactured at the highest quality standards in order to maintain and preserve the quality of agricultural produce and to reduce losses during storage.
Our vision is to lead the way in transforming food storage practices by championing the power of hermetic storage. We envision a future where food is preserved with unparalleled efficacy, empowering individuals and communities to reduce waste, enhance food security, and embrace sustainable solutions. Through our innovative and reliable hermetic storage systems, we strive to revolutionize the way we store and protect food resources, fostering a healthier and more resilient world for generations to come.
Nana has spent a life in agriculture: initially working for the Ghana government and later with the Japanese NGO Sasakawa, he established Agrimat Ghana to become a leading importer and trader in agricultural inputs specializing in seeds, agrochemicals, machinery and irrigation equipment. Later, while sharing his time between Ghana and the US, he established Agrimat USA as a company exporting US agricultural inputs to Africa. He has a longstanding familiarity with postharvest issues in Africa and with the advantages of modified atmosphere solutions.
Tom became familiar with postharvest research of outstanding Israeli scientists Dr. Shlomo Navarro and Jonathan Donahaye while being a kibbutz member and working in the kibbutz plastic industry . Fascinated by the science and the potential of modified atmosphere technology, he has spent the last thirty years in promoting, developing markets and setting up manufacturing capacity, initially in Israel and later in the Philippines, believing that this technology could be the key to reducing losses and making better quality food and feed available when combined with financial tools enabling risk free sustainable storage of essential commodities.
